This bird sanctuary is a great little birding spot in the middle of a gated community in Kyalami about 40 minutes north of Johannesburg (chapter 11 in Birding Gauteng). There are three bird hides and walkways around the dam that allow one to get up close to birds - it is a photographers dream spot! On two visits I have seen: African Reed Warbler, African Wattled Lapwing, Blacksmith Lapwings, Black-crowned Night Heron, Black-headed Heron, Cattle Egret, Dark-capped Bulbul, Golden Weaver, Hadeda Ibis, Laughing Dove, Southern Masked Weaver, Malachite Kingfisher, Reed Cormorant, Sacred Ibis, Southern Red Bishop, Spotted Thick-knee, African Darter and African Fish-Eagle.
