Modderfontein Conservation Park

Chapter 8 in Birding Gauteng describes the birding in the restricted mining area of Moddefontein to the east of Johannesburg. I have not managed to visit the restricted area, but I did spent an hour at one of the dams in the area during May 2011. I will definitely need to make a plan to get permission to visit the conservancy in the near future. Here are two scenery shots of the dam:

In my short time at the dam I saw the following bird species: Red-knobbed Coot, Egyptian Goose, Fulvous Duck, African Black Duck, Yellow-billed Duck, Common Moorhen, Black Heron, Reed Cormorant, Grey-headed Gull, Helmeted Guineafowl, African Wattled Lapwing, Blacksmith Lapwing, Sacred Ibis, Southern Masked Weaver and Three-banded Plover.
