On the northern edge of the city of Johannesburg, near to the University of Johannesburg, there is a dam in the suburbs that made the news some years back when a bus crashed into the dam tragically killing many children. On Saturday the 12th February 2011, my family and I visited the spot. Here are the birds we saw at the dam: Blacksmith Lapwing, Spotted Flycatcher, Rock Pigeon, Reed Cormorant, Sacred Ibis, Greylag Goose, Egyptian Goose and Red-knobbed Coot.
